NBR is used in the automotive and aeronautical industry to make fuel and oil handling hoses, seals, grommets, and self-sealing fuel tanks. It is used in the nuclear industry to make protective gloves. Its stability at temperatures from −45 to 130 °C makes it an ideal material for aeronautical applications. NBR is more resistant than natural rubber to oils and acids, and has superior strength. High-nitrile HNBR elastomers have better resistance to mineral oils, whereas peroxide/sulphur cured HNBRs have the best compression set and heat resistance.
